  • Kennesaw State professors launch social media research

A pair of Kennesaw State University researchers are developing a new study examining hate speech and imagery on social media using funding from a grant they received from Facebook. The proposal submitted by Anisah Bagasra, assistant professor of psychology, and Burton Speakman, assistant professor of communications, was one of only 20 selected out of the 200 proposals submitted to the social media giant. Kennesaw State is the only university in Georgia to earn a Facebook grant this year.  –  July 12, 2019

  • Gone Fishin'

For many anglers, summer is one of the best times to fish in nearby waters. The excitement of a fish hitting the bait and tugging the bobber under is a magical moment. However, there is nothing more disappointing than to venture out for a day of fishing only to discover that not only are fish not biting, worse yet, they aren’t even there anymore. KSU Biology Professor Bill Ensign has been working with local governments over the past two decades monitoring local streams’ ability to sustain aquatic life and to suggest ways to improve fish habitats.  –  July 12, 2019

  • Summer Success

Kennesaw State University is seeing the results of increasing its summer course offerings and spreading the word to students that taking summer classes helps them earn their degrees more quickly. Expansion of the summer curriculum, combined with a targeted marketing campaign promoting the benefits of taking summer classes, boosted Kennesaw State’s summer 2019 enrollment to 17,577 students. That represents an 8.5 percent increase over last year’s summer enrollment of 16,201 students and a 15.4 percent jump from 15,236 in 2017.  –  July 11, 2019

  • Laser Focused

Kennesaw State University’s Jeremy Gulley, associate professor of physics, has been awarded a three-year grant from the National Science Foundation/Department of Energy Partnership in Plasma Science and Engineering to study nanoscale laser optics. Totaling more than $116,000, this is Gulley’s first NSF grant, which will cover his research to bridge the knowledge gap between two fields in optical physics – laser light propagation and the interaction between laser light and semiconductor nanowires. These are wires that are not visible through a conventional microscope.  –  July 09, 2019

  • Cooking Up Excellence

Before joining Kennesaw State’s University Dining as an executive chef, Brian Jones honed his craft in some of Atlanta’s most iconic restaurants: Restaurant Eugene, Canoe, Watershed and The Ritz-Carlton Atlanta. On Thursday, his culinary prowess will be put to the ultimate test as he represents the University in the National Association of College and University Food Service (NACUFS) Culinary Challenge.  –  July 08, 2019
