My First Semester

Marketing student brings magic to the classroom

Dennis Morales wasn’t sure what to expect when his mom’s job moved his family from his home in Puerto Rico to Georgia two years ago. Kennesaw State University wasn’t even on his radar, but after his first semester here, he’s convinced that KSU is the school for him.

While Morales is pursuing a degree in marketing, he’s become known on campus for bringing magic into the classroom with tricks he performs. Starting from the age of 5, he has practiced the art of illusion and now performs as a magician at every opportunity.

Morales has found a new kind of magic at KSU: school spirit. He has enjoyed football games and the environment of his new home.

“Now that I’ve finished my first semester, I bleed black and gold,” Morales said.

Morales said he has been amazed at how Kennesaw State has eased his transition from high school to college. His participation in the University College’s learning community for first-year students, Everyone’s a Fan, has helped connect him to campus and find new friends.

“I didn’t know anyone when I came here. It’s a little scary, but I’ve made a lot of friends already. KSU really helps you get adjusted to college,” he said.

The hardest part of college life for only child Morales has been living in Kennesaw Place on campus. After growing up without having to share with any siblings, having roommates has been the biggest adjustment. However, he’s found ways to better communicate with his roommates and said he is grateful to live in a residence hall and have the experience of living with others.

“The environment at Kennesaw State is amazing and academically it’s been incredible,” he said. “My first semester has shown me KSU is the place for me.”
