Owls baseball wins Team of the Year; Max Pentecost voted Collegiate Player of the Year
KENNESAW, Ga. (March 9, 2015) —Kennesaw State University’s athletics program took home two awards at the 2015 Atlanta Sports Awards hosted by the Atlanta Sports Council at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. The Owls baseball program, led by head coach Mike Sansing, was named the Team of the Year and former KSU All-American Max Pentecost won for Collegiate Athlete of the Year.
“Our baseball program had a magnificent year. It represented everything that Kennesaw State is about,” said Director of Athletics Vaughn Williams. “We're really appreciative of Max Pentecost and his effort. He is a true Owl, along with Mike Sansing and the entire team.”
Sansing guided the Owls to a 40-24 record, the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament title, the NCAA Division I Tallahassee Regional championship and a trip to the Louisville Super Regional. Last year marked Kennesaw State's first A-Sun Conference title and NCAA Division I postseason berth.
“It's special that we were recognized, that the Atlanta Sports Council realized what that team had done and what Max had done,” said Sansing, who also was a finalist for Coach of the Year.
Pentecost, Kennesaw State's leading hitter, was a major catalyst in the Owls' success. He was a 2014 first-team All-American, Johnny Bench Award winner and the No. 11 overall selection by the Toronto Blue Jays in last summer's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Atlanta Sports Award collegiate winners included:
