Georgia (Jan 10, 2014) — KSU teams Greatest Show on Turf and Comma to the Top score big in Florida
Kennesaw State’s intramural flag football teams garnered impressive wins this month at the National Flag Football Championships hosted by the University of West Florida.
KSU's men’s team, known as the Greatest Show on Turf, won the National Flag Football Championship for the Men's College Division at the NIRSA Championship Series event. They defeated Florida A&M University 27-7 in the championship game.
The team has been in a semifinal game at national tournaments the past four years and to the championship game the past three years.
Last year, the Greatest Show on Turf won the ACIS National Championship, which was not played this year.
Placing second in the CoRec Division, KSU's Comma to the Top team lost 48-16 to the defending national champs from Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas.
Comma to the Top scored 123 points and allowed only 66 in National Tournament play. Going into the championship game, the team allowed only two scores.
“We are truly excited for both teams for their outstanding accomplishments,” said Tara Parker, director of Sports and Recreation. “All of our participants and staff help make KSU’s sports among the best in the country.”
Several individuals from both teams were recognized as the best flag football players in the nation at the NIRSA Championship Series event held in early January in Pensacola, Fla. Until 2012, NIRSA was formerly known as the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association.
• Men's All Americans: Dallas Hall (MVP), Zacheriah Desmarais, Michael Thomas
• CoRec All Americans: Francesca Cutlip, Jason Scoggins, Ryan Oubre
“The best time for me playing flag football is the family that we have on our team,” said men’s team quarterback Zacheriah Desmarais. “Also, we’ve met so many people playing flag football across the country and have made lifelong friendships with them.”
