WSB-TV covered Kennesaw State University’s salute to America’s veterans with a keynote address by Distinguished Service Medal recipient retired Maj. Gen. Maria Britt, the first female head of the Georgia National Guard and, since 2012, Kennesaw State University associate vice president for operations.
 
Britt received the presidential award, which is one of the nation’s highest, for “exceptional meritorious service from 21 February 2008 to 30 September 2011, as the commanding general, Georgia Army National Guard.”
 
Kennesaw State's ceremony was organized by the Veterans Resource Center, Army ROTC Club, Student Veterans Club and Semper Fi Society.
