(Feb 24, 2013) —
KENNESAW, Ga. (Feb. 24, 2013) Our deepest condolences go to the family and friends
of Bernard A. Zuckerman, philanthropist and university benefactor, who passed away
peacefully at 7:50 a.m. on Feb. 22 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He recently
celebrated his 91st birthday.
During the past 40 years, Mr. Zuckerman has been an integral part of the Atlanta community
and has contributed generously to educational and cultural programs throughout north
Georgia. Mr. Zuckerman remains one of the most important benefactors of Kennesaw State
University, having given $2 million to the construction of the Bernard A. Zuckerman
Museum of Art, set to open in fall 2013. He also donated over 130 works of art created
by his late wife, Ruth V. Zuckerman, to the University’s collection. Mr. Zuckerman
moved to Georgia from New York in the early 1970s to pursue a successful career in
the carpet industry.
A private graveside service for Mr. Zuckerman will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery
with a memorial service to be held sometime in the coming weeks. Mrs. Suzanne Siegel
has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Bernard A. Zuckerman
Museum of Art at Kennesaw State University in care of the KSU Foundation.
Mr. Bernard A. Zuckerman is survived by his wife, Suzanne Siegel; daughters Rowann
Zuckerman Gilman and Laura “Laurel” Bellon; and countless friends and community members
who have been impacted by Mr. Zuckerman’s influential and vibrant life.
The Bernard A. Zuckerman Museum of Art at Kennesaw State University will be the permanent
setting of the Ruth V. Zuckerman sculpture collection and serve as the hub of the
Arts District on campus. The KSU community is honored to carry on the mission of Mr.
Zuckerman’s vision and generosity.
