KENNESAW — Kennesaw State University will conduct a ribbon-cutting Thursday to open University Place II, a $26 million expansion of KSU’s residential complex for upperclassmen.
The move-in day will feature music, food and tours of the new facility, which includes apartment-style housing with 451 bedrooms, indoor and outdoor Wi-Fi connectivity, an amphitheater, a courtyard, multipurpose rooms and a Residence Life office.
“The American Council on Education reports that students who live on campus are more satisfied with their overall college experience,” said Jerome Ratchford, vice president for Student Success. “Students who live on campus also are more likely to succeed in college and complete their bachelor’s degrees in four years than those living off campus.”
The event starts at 9:30 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting, followed by a tour of University Place II between 10 and 11 a.m. and a free concert for students in the new amphitheater at 3210 Campus Loop Road beginning at 7 p.m.
Along with Ratchford, attendees are expected to include KSU President Daniel S. Papp, KSU Foundation Chairman Norman Radow, Director of University Housing and Residence Life Jeff Cooper and President of the KSU Residence Hall Association Tomkeshia Rice.
With the new dorms, KSU will have 3,500 beds available for students.
Construction of the new hall began last October. It was designed by HADP Architecture Inc. and built by Hardin Construction, both of Atlanta.
Parking for the guests is available at University Place Town Hall, located near the new amphitheater off Campus Loop Road. For more information, visit kennesaw.edu/universityplace.
