KENNESAW, Ga. - Texas Governor Rick Perry is the latest entry in the Republican campaign for president, and he's already made a strong showing in the polls.

At TJ Bryan's cafe in Kennesaw, Ernie Hodge said he likes what he sees of Perry, who announced just over two weeks ago he would be a candidate for president. …

Kennesaw State University political science professor Kerwin Swint has monitored Perry’s rapid rise and his bold, conservative rhetoric.

"It seems to me that Georgia is Rick Perry's kind of state," said Swint. "He hasn't been shy about making statements, so the big danger for him is overdoing it, saying something that embarrasses himself, saying that offends people, maybe seen by independents as too much, too harsh."

Key hurdles will come soon, as Perry joins other candidates in a series of Republican debates.
