KENNESAW‚ Ga. (June 6‚ 2007) — The Kennesaw State University Department of Music will
offer its second annual music clinic for high school students June 11−16 at Marietta
First United Methodist Church in Marietta. The clinic offers a comprehensive music
experience for student instrumentalist‚ pianists and singers.
Enrollment in the 2007 Clinic has grown by 20 percent since the inaugural year in
2006. Students will interact with 22 members of Kennesaw State’s faculty‚ and six
KSU music majors will serve as mentors to attendees. Faculty include Michael Alexander‚
music director of the Cobb Symphony Orchestra and director of orchestras at KSU‚ and
musicians from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra‚ Cobb Symphony and Atlanta Opera Orchestra.
Students will perform in large and small ensembles‚ attend master classes‚ and study
music theory‚ music history and conducting. Students also will receive daily individual
lessons. The week culminates with student chamber music performances on Friday‚ June
15 and large ensemble performances on Saturday‚ June 16. Rising seniors who participate
in the clinic will be considered for music scholarships at Kennesaw State.
“Michael Alexander and our applied music faculty are building the relationships necessary
to make our music clinic thrive for area students‚” said Peter Witte‚ chair of the
KSU Department of Music. “As a result of the KSU Summer Music Clinic‚ our faculty
make music with talented students from our local schools. It’s another way the KSU
College of the Arts connects with our community.”
