Spaceship Earth nears completion

A bronze figure of legendary environmentalist David Brower was placed onto Spaceship Earth‚ a 175−ton Brazilian blue quartzite sphere created by world−renowned Finno−American sculptor Eino‚ July 27.

Georgia (Jul 28, 2006) — A bronze figure of legendary environmentalist David Brower was placed onto Spaceship Earth‚ a 175−ton Brazilian blue quartzite sphere created by world−renowned Finno−American sculptor Eino‚ July 27.

Eino was commissioned by PowerBar founder Brian Maxwell to honor Brower‚ who died in 2000. Brower is credited with shaping the face of the environmental movement and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize three times.

The artist has been assembling Spaceship Earth‚ an 88−piece sculpture that will feature the life−size bronze figure of Brower near the apex of the sphere‚ since May. Once the entire sculpture is completed‚ it will be unveiled Oct. 20.
