A team of students who have earned their degrees from the state of Georgia’s online MBA program placed second in the Georgia Turnaround Management Association (TMA) 2004 MBA Competition held April 29 in Atlanta. The team included three students who recently completed the Georgia WebMBA® program. They are:

Steve Menear‚ who received his degree from Kennesaw State University‚ and works for Comverse‚ a unit of Comverse Technology‚ Inc.

Caroline McMillan‚ who received her degree through Georgia Southern University‚ is operations manager for Digital Office Equipment

Brian Bussey‚ who earned his degree through the State University of West Georgia‚ is a corporate pilot for ChevronTexaco Aircraft Operations.

The WebMBA® team competed as part of the Business Strategy course which concluded their academic program.

“The TMA competition gave us the opportunity to bring our class work to life‚” said Menear. He added that the knowledge gained from his WebMBA® courses‚ combined with the team’s extensive professional experience‚ aided their efforts.

The competition allowed students to work in a consulting capacity with real companies facing the need for corporate renewal. The competition differs from some academic contests in that it measures real−world skills.

“When a real problem comes up‚ you can’t just put the textbook away; you have to deal with it‚” said Michael Brooks‚ Public Relations Chair of the Georgia–Atlanta TMA chapter. Brooks’ remarks came as he introduced the competitors’ presentations.

Menear and his teammates worked with a Georgia−based manufacturer and marketer of children’s wear products‚ and presented their work during the competition.

The Georgia WebMBA® is an online degree offered by five AACSB−accredited University System of Georgia schools: Kennesaw State University‚ Georgia College & State University‚ Georgia Southern University‚ The State University of West Georgia‚ and Valdosta State University.
