Abstract
Mary Lou Bryant Frank has been appointed dean of undergraduate studies and general
education at Kennesaw State University. Frank replaced retiring Dean Joanne Fowler
on June 1.
With a Ph.D. in psychology and two master¹s degrees‚ one in counseling‚ and one in
psychology‚ Frank has held many academic and administrative positions in higher education‚
most recently chairing the department of psychology and sociology at North Georgia
College & State University in Dahlonega‚ Ga.
"The possibility of working with programs at Kennesaw State University is exciting
to me‚" Frank said. "Having a background in the sciences‚ social sciences‚ arts and
humanities and honors programs‚ I have an awareness of the challenges facing these
undergraduate professions and programs. Likewise‚ the breadth and scope of these fields
provide opportunities to help individuals connect across disciplines."
"Dr. Frank brings a wonderful array of academic‚ administrative and professional skills
and experiences that are well suited to the diverse responsibilities of the undergraduate
dean¹s role‚" said Edwin Rugg‚ vice president for academic affairs. "Her personal
and professional commitment to advancing the ideals of general education‚ honors programs
and student success is exceptional. Her professional counseling skills and interpersonal
effectiveness will be invaluable. We are also extremely pleased to attract an educational
leader who is a role model and mentor for women in higher education and the counseling
profession."
A native of Colorado‚ Frank plans to continue living in Dahlonega with Ken‚ her husband
of almost 28 years‚ because the younger of her two daughters‚ Kendra‚ is still in
high school. Kendra is a sophomore at Brenau Academy in Gainesville‚ Ga. Frank¹s husband
