None are more meaningful to her than the 2024 Outstanding Undergraduate Research Mentor Award, given annually by the Office of Undergraduate Research to a KSU faculty or staff member who exhibits sustained exceptional mentoring of undergraduate researchers at KSU.

Kennesaw State supporters exceed expectations during first Giving Day event

A total of 1,000 people and organizations donated $142,593 during Kennesaw State University’s inaugural Giving Day fundraising event. Supporters rained gifts on KSU to support a wide range of programs and activities, contributing more than seven times the $20,000 goal.

Kennesaw State partnership equips local entrepreneurs with tools for success

Iletha Dodds has always wanted to establish her own nail salon, but making the leap of faith felt too risky and daunting. The Marietta resident said taking care of her son and working full time as a court clerk made her dream seem improbable, so for years, she has settled on decorating the nails of family and friends as her creative outlet. That is, until she received an email detailing the Aspiring Community Entrepreneurs (ACE) program at Kennesaw State University. The ACE program launched in September 2023 through a partnership between Kennesaw State and Marietta-based MUST Ministries, a nonprofit fighting poverty, hunger and homelessness in the metro Atlanta area.

Kennesaw State researcher applies mathematical modeling expertise to health care systems

If she hadn’t become an engineer, Christina Scherrer might have chosen to be a medical doctor, dentist or other type of health care provider. Instead, she has worked for years to apply her expertise in industrial and systems engineering in areas that improve the delivery of health care. She loves helping others, whether it’s collaborating on health-related research, teaching new generations of engineers at Kennesaw State or volunteering in the community.

Kennesaw State departments collaborate on health-related website

Kennesaw State professor of exercise science Bob Buresh had an idea and a goal. He had an idea for a predictive website that could offer users the right amount of exercise each day in the form of a step count to achieve, based on information provided to the website. But how could he bring that idea to the marketplace? KSU’s Office of Intellectual Property Development helped Buresh take the necessary steps to bring his Stepping Forward program closer to launch by helping him secure a patent and pursue funding.

Kennesaw State MBA student leveraging degree work for a cause

At her core, Tracey Graves says there is always one thing guiding her endeavors: service. From a young age, the Kennesaw State University student had the importance of serving instilled in her, first by her family, and later by the personal feeling of purpose driving her life. “After every holiday growing up, my aunt would have us make sandwiches, we’d buy a case of water, and take them out to homeless people in my hometown,” said Graves, who is pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. “I think that’s where it all started, and that’s one thing we’ll all be doing forever, whether we’re serving ourselves, our families, our God, our community or the Earth, we’re all in service to something.”

Fellowship lets Kennesaw State students, service agencies do more

Kennesaw State students are doing good deeds every day, fulfilling needs in the wider community through the University’s Office of Volunteerism and Service. But some students want to make a bigger difference than a one-time volunteer opportunity, which led to the creation of a new program that is allowing 11 KSU students to have an outsized impact on 10 local nonprofit social service agencies.
